Press Release | 7 January 2025

In preparation for the annual Traslacion of the Black Nazarene on January 9, 2025, the Department of Health (DOH) has declared a Code White Alert from January 6–10, 2025. This alert ensures that all identified medical personnel, resources, and facilities in NCR and adjacent regions of Central Luzon and CALABARZON are on standby to respond swiftly to emergencies or health-related incidents during the massive religious gathering.

The DOH, in collaboration with partner agencies and the Local Government Unit of Manila, will strategically deploy medical teams and health stations along key areas of the Traslacion route, including Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, SM Manila, Ayala Bridge, P. Casal, and Quinta Market. Additionally, a total of 201 Health Emergency Response Team (HERT) personnel from 20 DOH Metro Manila hospitals, including Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC), Tondo Medical Center (TMC), Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital (DJFMH), and East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC), will be mobilized. Partner agencies such as the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and DOH Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD) will also play key roles in ensuring a coordinated and effective health response.

Designated health stations along the Traslacion route will provide basic and advanced care as needed. Ambulances will also be on standby for emergency transport and referral to hospitals. Facilities such as JRRMMC, TMC, and other DOH hospitals in NCR are fully prepared to receive patients requiring further medical attention.

The DOH also emphasizes the importance of observing health and safety precautions during the Traslacion. Devotees are encouraged to stay at home if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms such as coughs and colds to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. Stay hydrated by drinking 8 glasses of water a day, wear comfortable clothes, and limit exposure to heat to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke.

“The annual Traslacion draws millions of devotees. DOH is with you in ensuring the health and safety of all the participants. With our partner agencies, we are fully prepared to respond to any medical emergencies and provide immediate care. We call on all devotees to cooperate, remain vigilant, and prioritize their well-being throughout this significant event,” said Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa.
