The Department of Health (DOH) extends its condolences to the family of the late Dr. George Repique Jr., formerly Provincial Health Officer of Cavite. Repique was killed in an ambush on Tuesday night while on his way home, together with his driver who was hit in the leg.
Repique (1968-2017) became Cavite Provincial Health Officer in 2010 under Gov. Jonvic Remulla. During his term, he initiated the partnership between the UP Community Health and Development Program and the Cavite government in 2013 under the health program called Cavite AMIGA, an acronym for the towns of Alfonso, Mendez, Indang, General Emilio Aguinaldo and Amadeo.
“I wish to express great grief over this unfortunate incident. We have lost yet another dedicated health worker and I am extremely saddened by the fact that Dr. Repique was a staunch advocate and active partner in ensuring that the health concerns of Cavitenos were well taken care of,” Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial said.
“We ask our local governments to please protect our doctors and health workers! Help them so they can serve you better,” Ubial reiterated her appeal previously made when the same incident happened to Dr Dreyfus Perlas in March of this year.
The DOH expressed its sympathy and sorrow to Repiques’ family and vowed to support efforts to obtain justice in this seemingly senseless killing.
