In his message during the COVID-19 Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) meeting with Pasay City’s Task Force COVID today, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III told the city’s local officials that the fight against COVID-19 is not a sprint but a marathon that calls for endurance. “Limang buwan na po nating binubuno ang problema natin sa COVID-19. DOH issues Press Release: Philippines now has 100 licensed testing labs - DOH
The Department of Health (DOH) reported that there are now a total of 100 licensed testing laboratories throughout the Philippines who are eligible to conduct RT-PCR testing for the diagnosis of COVID-19 as of August 6, 2020. The 100th laboratory facility is Chong Hua Hospital, in Cebu City. The addition of Chong Hua Hospital to the roster of licensed testing laboratories is a milestone in terms of the country’s testing capacity. Initially needing to send swab samples to the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory in Melbourne, Australia for COVID-19 confirmation in February, the Philippines now boasts the highest testing capacity among countries in the Southeast Asia region, even topping richer neighboring countries such as Japan and Singapore... |

DOH issues Press Release: DOH: Philippines leads in testing in Southeast Asia; increasing cases attributed to increased testing and community transmission
The Department of Health reported that the Philippines has taken the top spot in terms of testing capacity in the entire Southeast Asian region, with the country having tested more unique individuals than its economically advanced neighbor countries. As of August 4, 2020, according to DOH data, the country has a total of 99 licensed testing laboratories and conducted a total of 1,643,539 tests, testing an average of 28,938 tests per day within the last 7 days. This is significantly higher than Indonesia which has tested a total of around 908,000 as of August 4, and testing an average of 14,291 per day within the last 7 days according to Our World in Data. The Philippines’ total number of tests conducted relative to its population size is 1.5% according to DOH data, a significantly higher percentage compared to Indonesia which has tested around 0.34% of its total population according to Our World in Data... |

Discussions continued with the nation's medical societies as they presented to us their response to the seven (7) points that they identified as critical areas of improvement to the healthcare system. We compared our existing inventory of initiatives with representatives from the Health Professionals Alliance Against COVID-19 (HPAAC) and they provided us operational recommendations for executing programs at the local government unit (LGU) level.
