DOH issues Press Release: Despite rise in COVID-19 cases, CFR continues to decrease
Despite the rise in COVID-19 cases, the country’s case fatality rate (CFR) shows a decreasing trend. Both numbers also indicate that the death rate might be reaching a point of stability.  These findings, presented by epidemiologist Dr. DJ Darwin Bandoy on Monday’s Beat COVID-19 Virtual Presser aired last July 20, present a more encouraging outlook of the Philippines’ fight against COVID-19. “Makikita po natin yung pag-improve. Nung mga nakaraang buwan, ang CFR po ay around 6% at medyo bumababa na po sya sa 2%. Dalawa po yung nakikita nating factors dito—nababawasan yung bilang ng mga pumapanaw at nag-i-increase po yung pag-detect natin,” Bandoy explained. The physician is a member of the UP COVID-19 Pandemic Response Team, a Ph.D. candidate in the University of California, and founder of the Philippine Society of Epidemiology...

DOH issues Press Release: SOH clarifies pre-SONA statement on flattening the curve
This is to clarify the statement of Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, on flattening the curve, made during the Pre-SONA Forum. The statement is based on the reported lengthening of the Case Doubling Time (CDT), or the time it takes for the number of cases to double. The CDT is a measure of how quickly an outbreak spreads. Low CDTs mean faster outbreaks, while higher CDTs mean slower outbreaks. Case doubling time is computed using historical data, and should not be used to predict the number of cases after a period of time...

DOH issues Press Release: DOH calls on the public to BIDA Solusyon to fight COVID-19
With many Filipinos needing to return to work, the country now needs to balance the reopening of economy and containing the spread of the virus. Balancing this act requires every Filipino can be part of the solution by participating in the Department of Health’s BIDA Solusyon campaign. A part of the nation’s larger strategy to prevent, trace, test, and treat, BIDA Solusyon is the Philippine government’s social and behavioral change campaign to encourage Filipinos to practice the four key preventive behaviors that will help keep themselves and their families safe against the pandemic. Each letter in BIDA represents one of these behaviors:  Bawal walang mask, I-sanitize ang kamay at Iwas-hawak sa mga bagay, Dumistansya ng isang metro, at Alamin ang totoong impormasyon.

DOH issues Press Release: SOH makes surprise inspection in Manila hospitals
Despite the apparent increase in validated case figures reported in the last two days, there is actually a downward trend in the mortality rate in the country for mid-June. This was what the Department of Health (DOH) explained Sunday in a special weekend edition of Beat COVID-19 Virtual Presser, Health OIC-Undersecretary Dr. Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire underscored that the rise in reported deaths from COVID-19 this month is due to a delay in the submission of validated mortality cases from the LGUs to the DOH’s Epidemiology Bureau...
