Press Release/18 January 2005
The Joint Department of Health (DOH)-Baguio LGU Operations Center today reported that meningococcemia cases continue to decrease. No new cases were reported as of January 17, 2005.
Despite the decreasing trend of meningococcemia cases, however, Baguio residents are advised to continue to be vigilant and to report suspected cases immediately to the nearest hospital. Health authorities reminded the public that sporadic cases of meningococcemia are still expected to appear.
In Baguio City, the total number of meningo suspect cases from January 1-17 now stands at 11. Of the total, only three are confirmed cases.
In other areas of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) such as Benguet, a total of 14 suspect cases were reported from January 1-17. Of the total, there are also only three confirmed cases.
On the other hand, Mt. Province registered a total of 12 suspect cases from January 1-17 with no confirmed case.
The most important aspect of the management of the disease is the prevention of deaths and complications by administering appropriate clinical management, contact tracing and chemoprophylaxis of close contacts.
