The AHRQ site has numerous Clinical Information: Evidence-based practice, Outcomes & Effectiveness, Technology Assessment, Preventive Services, Clinical Practice Guidelines. It also has consumer publications about various medical topics, including acute pain management, chronic incontinence, cataracts, depression, management of cancer pain, mammography, acute low back problems, and poststroke rehabilitation among others. In addition , the site has various health care statistics, news about upcoming conferences, speeches and congressional testimony by AHCPR officials, announcements about grants and job vacancies, and information about the National Advisory Council for Health Care Policy, Research, and Evaluation.

AMA Health Insight

This site, which is operated by the American Medical Association, offers a smorgasbord of health information. One of the site’s highlights is its collection of detailed article about specific medical conditions such as arthritis, asthma, blood pressure, depression, type II diabetes, heart attack, HIV/AIDS, and migraine headaches. It has also an atlas of the human body, strategies for becoming physically fit, a medical glossary, a personal health history record that can be filled out online, recipes, advice on travel health, nutrition information, and more.

CDC Servers

The CDC Servers offer an incredible collection of health-related databases, books, and documents. They’re operated by the Centers for disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The servers offer Report of the Surgeon General, full-text articles of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report; Emerging Infectious Diseases (a journal published by the National Center for Infectious Diseases); brochures about lead poisoning, preventing birth defects, chronic fatigue syndrome, lyme disease, malaria and others. They also provides CDC WONDER, a huge database system that provides CDC report, guidelines, and public health data; numerous publications from the National Center for Health Statistics; extensive health related information for international travelers, including details about vaccine requirements and health recommendations for specific regions of the world; the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report and lots more.

HealthGate

The centerpiece of HealthGate is a series of databases created by the National Library of Medicine such as MEDLINE, CANCERLIT, AIDSDRUGS, AIDSLINE, AIDSTRIALS, BIOETHICSLINE, HEALTHSTAR. HealthGate provides free access to the databases, although some other areas of the site are fee-based. The site is operated by HealthGate Data Corp., a private company . Another useful HealthGate feature not created by the NLM is a database that has information on nearly 300 diagnostic procedures. For each procedure, the database provides information about the indications and contraindications, patient preparation, how the procedure is performed, and interpretation of results, among other details. The database was created in 1995 by Lexi-Comp Inc., and is update quarterly.

HealthWeb

This is a collaborative project of the health sciences libraries of the Greater Midwest Region (GMR) of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) and those of the Committee for Institutional Cooperation. This project is supported by the National Library of Medicine. HealthWeb provides links to thousands of evaluated health-related Web sites, mailing lists, and newsgroups. The links are divided into 75 subjects in health and medicine, and each subject page was created by a particular medical library. Since pages were developed independently by various libraries, they vary in their depth of coverage. However, most are quite extensive, and provide excellent starting points for searches on particular medical topics.

This site which is operated by the Mayo Clinic, provides thousands of articles about virtually every medical topic you can imagine. It’s one of the premier medical sites on the Internet. It is particularly strong in the subject of diet and nutrition, pregnancy and child health, cancer, heart wellness, women’s health and medicine. But it also has extensive materials about various diseases, mental health, first aid, fitness, food and diet, health care options, how the body works, medical tests and procedures, natural healing, prevention and wellness, rehabilitation, and sexuality, among many other topics. It also has a handy glossary of medical terms.

One of the site’s most interesting feature is the section called "My Mayo page". You just have to register in order to have this personalized page wherein you can select from the list of health interest that will automatically appear on your "My Mayo" page whenever there are new articles that match your interest. Registration is free.

Med Help International

Med Help International offers a database containing all kinds of medical information. If you type in the name of a disease or condition, the database will return articles from such sources as the national Institutes of Health and the John Hopkins University, relevant entries from medical glossary, news items about the subject, a list of patient support groups, and links to toher articles at selected medical sites. Another useful feature is that Med Help is currently hosting several medical specialty forums. In these forums you can post a question to medical professional (doctor or nurse). Questions are usually answered within a few days, and your answer will be posted back in the Forum. Answers will stay on-line for a week or two, after which they will be kept in the Forum’s Archive.

Office of Disease Prevention

The Office of Disease Prevention site offers reports that evaluate scientific information on various medical topics.
