REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH BUREAU OF FOOD AND DRUGS Filinvest Corporate City Alabang, Muntinlupa City
DOH-BFAD HEALTH ADVISORY No. 01-06 Date Issued: November 7, 2001
The Bureau of Food and Drugs has noted through its monitoring of drug outlets that counterfeit drug products are present in the Philippines.
Counterfeit drug products pose serious threats to end-users. Low potency or absence of the active ingredients(s) will fail to provide the expected and desired therapeutic effect(s). Others may even have contaminants or adulterants that may be toxic.
Several drug outlets were found to be selling counterfeit drug products, including drug products that are not registered with the Bureau of Food and Drugs, thus assurance of quality, safety and efficacy is absent. Some most commonly found counterfeit drugs are the following: Appetens Tablet, Postan Capsule, Mosegor Vita Tablet, Augmentin Injection, Decilone-Forte Tablet, Fortum Injection, Propan with Iron Capsule, Voltaren SR Tablet, Inoflox Capsule, Verorab Injection
In view of these findings, the BFAD hereby warns all drugstore owners, pharmacists, and consumers that counterfeit drugs are present in some outlets and must therefore take all necessary measures and precautions to prevent the retailing, dispensing and usage of such counterfeit drug.
