BFAD ADVISORY
No. 99-06
Date Issued: September 1, 2000

Subject: Warning on the Use of "Cure All" products

The Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) hereby reiterates its advise to the public to be wary of products being promoted as "cure-all"especially those that are taken internally  allegedly for the treatment of serious medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer, HIV, hepatitis B, etc.

Reports have reached the BFAD of adverse events being associated with the use of some "cure-all"products such as the "PDA Water" from Tarlac City, Mahogany seeds and other herbal preparations. Although the direct link of such  "cure-all" products with serious and even fatal medical cases cannot be exclusively established, the DOH-BFAD is sounding the alarm against their use to prevent other people from being exposed to these products and suffer from their adverse effects.

Products that are being promoted as "cure-all"do not have any scientific basis of safetgy and efficacy. Drinking or using these products often give patients a false sense of security that stops them from seeking medical help. Thus, rather than getting an earlier of the product may lead to more serious complications.

This advisory is issued in the interest of consumer safety and protection.
