BFAD ADVISORY
Subject: Health Hazards of Neotogen or Magic Sugar It has been brought to the attention of the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) that Neotogen or Magic Sugar is continuously being sold in the local markets especially in the Southern regions of the country. In the interest of the public health and safety, BFAD hereby re-iterates that the use of Neotogen or Magic Sugar as food sweetener is prohibited due to evidence of its carcinogenicity in animals. Neotogen or Magic Sugar is not registered with the Bureau of Food and Drugs. As such, the importation, distribution or sale of the product is illegal and is subject to the sanctions and penalties stipulated in Republic Act 3720, the "Foods, Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics Act." Everyone is enjoined to report persons or entities dealing in illegal
trade of the subject product to the BFAD Section of the DOH-Regional Field
Office or the Health Office of the Local Government Unit.
